Dr. Lyuba Kuznetsova
Assistant Professor, Department of Physics

lyubaLyuba Kuznetsova is an assistant professor at the Physics Department at San Diego State University. She received her BS degree in physics from Moscow State University (Moscow, Russia), and her PhD in applied physics from Cornell University in 2008. She is the author of more than 30 journal papers and the co-inventor on two patents. Her current research interests include nanophotonics, ultrafast lasers, and cavity quantum electrodynamics. Research in her lab focuses on the different ways of controlling light on the subwavelength scale via modifying the photonic environment. Projects include ultrafast nanocavity LEDs for visible light communications, emerging aluminum-doped zinc oxide metamaterials for light control, and microcavity-based optical sensors for bio-medical applications.

Dr. Askhan Ashrafi
Associate Professor, Electrical and Computer Engineeering

ashrafiAshkan Ashrafi received his BSc and MSc degrees in Electronics Engineering from K.N.Toosi University of Technology, Tehran, Iran and MSE and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Alabama in Huntsville, Huntsville, AL, USA in 1991, 1995, 2003 and 2006, respectively. He is currently an Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at San Diego State University, San Diego, CA and the director of the Signal Processing Research Laboratory. He received the Outstanding Faculty Award of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, San Diego State University in both 2012 and 2013. He served as an associate editor for IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems Part-I: Regular Papers between 2011 and 2014 and received the Best Associate Editor Award in 2013. His research interests are digital and statistical signal processing, graph theory and graph signal processing, estimation theory, biomedical signal processing, brain connectivity analysis and audio processing. He is a member of Phi-Kappa-Phi, Sigma-Xi and Eta-Kappa-Nu honor societies.
